Look What’s Blooming In The Garden Today

Strawberry Crepes and Sugar Creamer Set 005

I think my favorite flower is an Iris.

A beautiful purple/blue  Iris.  Yes, if I am ever asked or filling out a questionnaire as to what my favorite flower is I would have to say an Iris.  This is what I found in the garden today!

So beautiful…

And look at that color!

I recently read somewhere that the Fleur de Lis symbol that is so popular in France is modeled after the Iris.  It’s the symbol of royalty.  No wonder I love them so much!

You would think that as much as I like them I would have a whole garden full of them.  Alas, I only have one.  And this is it.  I have been growing this particular Iris for the last 3 years and it has never bloomed like this before.  Yes, 3 years!  Of course, we moved it a couple of times during those 3 years.  We just couldn’t seem to find a place that it liked.  But I do believe we finally found a forever spot for it.  It seems very happy here.  Now the trick is to go out and find more of the exact same purple/blue and plant them in this same location.

And I am not sure what these are.  I planted these 3 years ago too and they never bloomed before either!  I guess I was into the purples that year. :)

Can anybody identify these for me?????  I really need to start saving the tags that come on the plants I buy.  :)

Now THAT is the color I wanted for my iris's. I dug up some bulbs last fall at a friends house. He said I could help my self so I dug up a TON of bulbs, planted them thinking in the spring I would have beautiful purple iris's. He didn't know what color they were so I assumed they would be purple. Guess what color they were? . . . . . . . white!! It's kind of fun that the garden of a Color Specialist has a ton of white flowers. They do look pretty though and the price was right :-)

I love irises too and they spread so quickly that I can transfer them all over the yard. I have purple and yellow in my yard and they just started blooming. Don't you just love looking out your window and seeing a new bloom?

Your iris is beautiful. I love the color. Mine are just starting to bloom too. I believe your mystery flower is a columbine.

Yes, columbine. I have quite a few and just love them!!
Wow your garden is way ahead of us here in Toronto. We are on the last of the tulips and the irises are just starting to bud.

Now that you mention it, I can see the fleur de lis in this flower! Such wonderful surprises await us in the garden.

I forgot to say: as soon as I saw that first photo, the song "Isn't She Lovely" went running through my head!
